Mockbul AliOn Sunday 9th October we have invited the Deputy British Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Mockbul Ali to speak on the subject Understanding Islamic ExtremismAs policy adviser on Islamic Issues and the Muslim World for the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office he is highly qualified to do this.

 

Dr Vickie HudsonOur speaker on Sunday 20th November is Dr Vickie Hudson whose PhD thesis was A Study of the Civilisational Aspect of Russian Soft Power in Contemporary Ukraine, which she completed at The Centre for Russian and East European Studies at the University of Birmingham. In early November she is speaking at a conference in Canada on the role of the Orthodox Church in the conflict in Ukraine and will be sharing her insights at our Living Room Dialogue.

Sunday 13 March

Tim Woodward is Network Manager of Bahrain Public Transport, which is the new company operating bus services across the Kingdom of Bahrain in partnership with the Ministry of Transportation. He will be speaking on the theme Transforming Bahrain’s Public Transport System. Prior to coming to Bahrain Tim worked for National Express in the UK in a variety of roles, responsible for network and route planning and scheduling, handling major projects and event management, including Pope Benedict XVIs visit to Birmingham in 2010.

Sunday 8th May

Andrew Kelly is a research analyst for the Middle East Programme of the International Institute for Strategic Studies, the organization that brings the Manama Dialogue to Bahrain. His most recent focus for research has been Israel/Palestine and he will be speaking on the escalation of tensions in East Jerusalem and the West Bank, the political context, the drivers of the recent violence and the implications for the peace process.

 

Sunday 12th June

Angie Thadani is based with the International Organization for Migration in Cairo. Her early days there were very challenging: food poisoning, robbery and a cockroach infested apartment. In Cairo, she works in a regional knowledge hub that generates research on irregular migration – to, through and from North Africa – with a view to inform policy, programming and advocacy and ensure the protection of migrants. She also acts as the secretariat of the North Africa Mixed Migration Task Force that works to promote a human rights based approach to managing migration flows.. She will be reflecting on the challenges faced by Governments and refugees in this context.

Sunday 11th October

NicolaStanna Nicola Smith and Stanna Wieclawska Kyriakou, President and Vice-President of The Freedom Dolls Initiative are visiting us from Cyprus and sharing their experience in addressing human trafficking. As a Church we have been supporting this organization through selling freedom dolls.

Kawthar Lanbari Sunday 15th November

Kawthar Lanbari will be speaking on The Role of Journalistic Translation in International Relations, which is the subject of her PhD thesis for which she is working at the Sorbonne. She is working at the Art Rotana Hotel, but she has been a prominent journalist with the Bahrain News Agency interviewing ambassadors and politicians.

A bring and share evening not just of food, but of carols, readings, poetry, art that have an Advent and Christmas theme. Bring a contribution7 from your own country perhaps, that will enrich all of our journeys to Christmas.
